Bassetlaw Hospice gala

Bassetlaw Hospice gala

STAFF at Bassetlaw Hospice held a fund-raising gala day in the grounds of Retford's Bassetlaw Museum at the weekend.

Organisers were thrilled to see a good number of people attend the event, including many supporters of the hospice.

The day was a huge success, despite the appalling weather on Saturday, and the majority of stall-holders donated cash to the hospice.

But the charity is still receiving money from the event and a final total will be announced soon.

Only one of the attractions was a victim of the conditions. The ferret race had to be delayed until there was a halt in the rain and then the ground was unsuitable so the race was shortened.

Other highlights were the very good turnout at the dog show and an enclosure with unusual pets, including reptiles that entertained the children.

Craft stalls were set up and refreshments were provided for the public.

New Mayor of Retford, Bryn Jones, also had time to visit the museum and pass on his thanks to the stall-holders for the work they had done and the donations they were giving.

A spokesman for the hospice said: "It was a very successful day, despite the weather. There was a good turnout and the conditions could do nothing to dampen the spirits.

"We are grateful to the museum for allowing us to use their brilliant facilities.

"A big thanks also to all the hospice staff who organised the event and helped out on the day.

"We will consider organising another gala day next year following this year's success."
