Car parking fine dodgers are targeted
The Notts Parking Partnership has arranged for bailiffs for four independent companies to collect the cash, which accounts for £150,000 of lost revenue in the Bassetlaw district alone.
Bassetlaw town centres' manager Richard Blagg said drivers who overstayed in car parks or used blue badges illegally could expect a visit.
"More than 1,400 drivers across the county are being targeted," he said.
"In Bassetlaw, they include people who have either overstayed their time in car parks or have illegally parked outside marked parking areas.
"Also included are people with expired blue badges or those who have used their blue badges to park illegally, either by overstaying their claimed time or parking in bays not demarcated for the disabled.
"Some local offenders, who have more than one transgression against their name, have as much as £1,000 in unpaid fines."
Head of community prosperity David Armiger said a minority of motorists were placing an "unfair burden" on everyone else.
"The purpose of car parking charges is to ensure residents have access to parking in convenient town centre locations," he said.
"A small minority of people continue to refuse to pay fines issued for breaking the parking rules. These people place an unfair burden on the majority who follow the rules. It is important we don't let them get away with not paying.
"At present we are owed more than £150,000 in unpaid fines and people need to be aware that we will take action to recover the money."
