Police question public on robbery

Thursday, December 04, 2008, 08:50

A WEEK after the robbery at Retford's Halifax bank, police took their search for information onto the streets on Monday night (December 1).

Officers were in Retford Market Square in an attempt to talk to any members of the public about the robbery, which occurred just before 10pm on Monday, November 24.

Two security guards were re-filling the ATM machines inside the bank, in the market square, when offenders forced their way inside by smashing a window and stole cash.

They left the area in a brown BMW Mini Cooper Clubman car, which was later recovered at the junction of Rectory Road and Hospital Road, Retford.

Detective Inspector Andy Gowan said: "I am appealing for anybody who saw this vehicle in Retford at any point during the evening of the incident or saw it being abandoned to contact the police immediately.

"We would also like to speak to witnesses who saw anybody acting suspiciously near the bank prior to the incident taking place.

"The security guards were uninjured but shaken by the incident."

The bank was closed for a day while police examinations continued on the Tuesday (November 25).

Witnesses or anyone with further information is asked to contact Retford CID on 01909 500999 extension 7468 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
