And the senior detective who is leading the inquiry has appealed for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
Detective Chief Inspector Kate Meynell spoke out exactly a week after the part-time gamekeeper died after the attack outside his remote home.
Tributes have been paid to Mr Bacon – also known as Neil – since the father-of-two and grandfather was killed.
He died last Wednesday, November 26, after the incident at around 7pm that night at Keeper's Cottage, Normanton Larches.
The secluded bungalow is just a few hundred yards off the main A614 on the Bothamsall road – close to the main entrance to Clumber Park.
A post mortem, carried out last Thursday at Leicester Royal Infirmary, confirmed that Mr Bacon died of stab wounds to the upper body.
"This was a horrific crime in which a family man was murdered on his own driveway," said DCI Meynell.
"His wife Susan called the police at about 7pm and he died later in hospital.
"As you can imagine, we've had a lot of help from the local community.
"But the location is remote and we're asking for anyone who may have seen someone or a vehicle in the vicinity last Wednesday teatime to make contact.
"The inquiry is going well, with a forensic examination of the surrounding area being followed by searches in the house.
"We have several lines of investigation, but someone may have information which to them may seem insignificant – yet could be a vital clue."
DCI Meynell confirmed that the 50-strong team included officers who were providing support for Mr Bacon's family.
Anyone with information can call Notts Police in their incident room on (01623) 483020 or Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555111.
