The waiting was finally over for sixth formers across the region last Thursday when they received their results.
It was the moment of truth for many anxious students who discovered whether they had done enough to get into university.
The trend for improved A-Level grades continued this year, with every school across the region reporting record results.
The first year of A- level results at Ret ford's new Post-16 Centre saw improved grades across the town's schools.
Teachers said the new centre has had a positive effect on pupils' performance. Both Retford Oaks High School and Elizabethan High School saw increases in top grades - 38 per cent of grades were A or B, and the pass rate was 99 per cent - both improvements on last year's results.
There was also a 100 per cent pass rate in 24 of 27 subjects.
"We've had outstand ing results from all the schools," said Mrs Grum, director of the Post-16 Centre, which now serves as the sixth form for Elizabethan High School, Retford Oaks High School and St Giles School, with students from North Notts College also.
"We're delighted with the results, they're a real tribute to the hard work of staff," added Mrs Grum.
She said the biggest improvement was that of Retford Oaks' percentage of A and B grades, with a rise from 25 per cent to 41.
"Everyone has worked very hard to improve and we are delighted with the results," said Retford Oaks Deputy Head, Martin Wheeler.
A-B grades at the school were 41 per cent compared to 25 per cent last year.
And A-C grades were up 15 per cent to 63 per cent. The overall pass rate was 96 per cent.
Elizabethan High School continued to perform well with a number of high achievers.
Staff praised the hard work of students at Tuxford School where exam results showed improvements.
At A2 level 37 per cent of entries were grade A or B and the av erage point score per entry was 205 - an in crease of 12 points on last year.
Geoff Lloyd, Head of School, said the vast majority of pupils were now moving on to their first choice university and course.
"These outstanding results reflect the hard work of students and staff with the support of our parents," said Mr Lloyd.
And t The Queen Elizabeth High School in Gainsborough notched up a 100 per cent pass rate.
"All our results – the overall pass rate was 100 per cent, with 30 students amassing a total of 107 A grades – represent hard-earned individual success." headteacher David Smart said.
