Next Wednesday sees troops from the Mercian Regiment making full use of their right to the Freedom of Worksop and Retford with a ceremonial march.
Retford Town Mayor Bryn Jones said he was looking forward to the march and called for proud residents to line the streets.
"I think we're very fortunate to have a march through the town by the Mercian Regiment," he said.
"It's a great day because it's a local regiment.
"It would be great if we can get a big group of people turning out for it."
After forming at Churchgate at 10.30am, the regiment will proceed past the cannon to Chapelgate. Turning right onto Arlington Way, the troops will head to the junction of Albert Road and London Road, before heading over Carolgate Bridge and onto Carolgate.
After heading to Market Place, the soldiers will salute Bassetlaw Council chairman Cllr Helen Colton, who will stand alongside Mr Jones, in his ceremonial regalia, before heading back to Churchgate and falling out.
Afterwards, a reception will follow in the ballroom of Retford Town Hall for members of the regiment and invited guests.
Motorists should be aware of a series of rolling road closures that will be taking place throughout the hour-long parade, announced by the district council last week.
The Churchgate car park will be closed to the public from 7.30am to 1pm for the march.
Formed in 2004, the regiment represents battalions from Cheshire, Worcestershire, Staffordshire and the Midlands, and derives its namesake from its usual base of operations in Mercia.
Recent operation in Helmand saw the regiment training and mentoring the Afghan National Army to develop security and stability in the country.
