Most entertaining keyboard duo to perform for society

ONE of the most eagerly awaited events of the whole year for Gainsborough Organ Society takes place on Sunday (18).

Two organists - Richard Bower and Ian Griffin, who perform under the name of 'Keyclix', will be playing for the society at the Weston Rooms, Gainsborough at 2.30pm.

Both are professional musicians in their own right, with each of them performing at all the national and international festivals, in addition to the many organ societies throughout the country.

Both have their own studios and production companies, and will have long journeys to make, due to Richard living in Somerset and Ian in South Wales.

They first performed as a duo in 1987 whilst representing different organ companies individually, at a national festival.

They suddenly realised that they had the unusual gift of being able to read each other's mind, in a musical sort of way, and very soon became established as Britain's most entertaining keyboard duo.

The word 'Keyclix' was derived from the fact that the early organs had a key clicking sound when the notes were played, hence their name.

The other amazing fact is that they never practise together, due to the distance living apart and their own musical performances.

Both are musical directors for various shows and Ian has his own cabaret show called 'Casual Affair' with numerous TV shows to his credit.

Having played for the society before both solo and as a duo, a first class show is guaranteed with the second half of their programme comprising of audience requests, where they pick out the requested tunes whilst playing.

They will play solo for part of the show, and then together as the duo in the second half, which illustrates their brilliance as musicians, with no practice, no music, and not knowing what comes next until they start to play together.

They had standing ovations last time they played for the group.

Both have worked as demonstrators for the well known organ companies, and will be playing a multitude of keyboards, thus producing a sound that in the opinion of many experts, cannot be matched by any single instrument on the market today.

Every show is different due to the audience requests, and an extremely enjoyable show is promised.

Doors open at 1pm and tickets costing £5 can be ordered by ringing the secretary Peter Naulls on (01427) 615265.

There will be admittance at the door.
