The sun shines on 'jolly good day' for Scouts and Guides

RETFORD Scouts and Guides brought an international theme to Retford on Saturday with their annual carnival celebration.

A colourful parade, with the theme of holidays from around the world, was led through the town centre by the Retford Scout Fellowship Band.

The parade ended in Kings' Park where each group was presented certificates by Retford Mayor Ian Campbell and Bassetlaw District chairman Councillor Ken Bullivant.

An afternoon of fun and games was enjoyed in the park, with activities from apple bobbing to candyfloss making.

The Welbeck Estates Brass Band provided entertainment for everyone and stall holders sold a variety of food and craft products.

"Over all it was a jolly good day. The sun shone and everyone enjoyed the carnival atmosphere," said Ray Moore, treasurer of the Scout and Guide committee.

Next year is the 100th anniversary of Scouting in Retford.

"We are hoping to put on something special to celebrate," said Mr Moore.
